2018 Teacher of the Year Recognition Program

The Teacher of the Year recognition program is intended to honor excellence in the classroom and provide a forum to showcase outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the community they serve. All recipients must:

  • demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching
  • take an active role in their communities as well as their schools
  • be professional, poised and articulate
  • inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities
  • be skillful, dedicated teachers who plan to actively continue classroom teaching

NBISD selects District Teachers of the Year

2018 NBISD Elementary Teacher of the Year


Lauren Bain has been an educator for the past 12 years and a teacher in NBISD for the past 9 years. She worked in North East ISD as an elementary music teacher before coming to NBISD in 2009. She currently works as the Music Teacher at Carl Schurz Elementary.


She earned both her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Music Education and Master of Arts in Teaching for All-Level Music from Trinity University. She is certified to teach music (early childhood through 12th grade) and English as a Second Language (Supplemental). She also received her Kodály Certification from Texas State University and Orff-Schulwerk Certification from Trinity University. She is President-Elect 2017-2019 for the Kodály Educators of Texas and is a member of the Organization of American Kodály Educators, Texas Music Educators Association and International Kodály Society.


Her past honors include being selected as a grant recipient through the NBISD Education Foundation in 2017, TangerKIDS in 2014 and North East ISD Educational Foundation in 2008. In 2015, she was selected as Campus Teacher of the Year at Carl Schurz Elementary School.

2018 NBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year


Sara Trammell has been an educator for the past 6 years and a teacher in NBISD for the past 4 years. She worked in Austin ISD as music specialist before coming to NBISD in 2014. She currently works as the Choir Teacher at New Braunfels Middle School.


She received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Texas State University. She is certified to teach music (early childhood through 12th grade).  She is a member of the Texas Choral Directors Association and Texas Music Educators Association.


Her past honors include being named a Kohl’s Cares Service Project Grant Recipient and a Teacher of Promise in 2013 from Austin ISD. Under her direction, the NBMS choirs have been successful and consistently earned a Sweepstakes trophy at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading competitions. In 2017, the NBMS Beginning Treble Choir also earned a Superior Award at the Pride of Texas Music Festival.

NBISD names their 2018 Campus Teachers of the Year

The New Braunfes ISD is proud to announce this year’s Campus Teachers of the Year. All of these individuals will be honored at the March 19 Board meeting and will be considered for either the honor of NBISD Elementary or Secondary Teacher of the Year. The District honorees will be announced the week of April 9 and recognized at the April 16 Board meeting. From that level, the two honorees will advance to the regional competition with hopes of ultimately being named a Texas Teacher of the Year.
